TRAINEE SUPPORT SERVICES

When Cabinet approves  the award of a scholarship the Scholar Support Services Section is then responsible for administering the said award.  This section monitors the progress of the scholar to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the scholarship.

The Process

  • The Applicant is informed in writing that, subject to medical fitness, he/she has been awarded the scholarship;
  • The Scholar Services Section liaises with other Ministries/Departments, donor agencies and universities to obtain relevant information pertaining to the award;
  • A Contract  is signed between the Permanent Secretary and the scholar whereby both parties agree to certain conditions;
  • The Accounting Unit is authorized to make payments to and on behalf of the scholar, for example, “salary loan”, allowances, refunds, and increments (if applicable); For the current rates payable, please click here.  
  • The Relevant Overseas Mission is advised of the grant of the award and  payments are authorized. The Mission is requested to ensure that the scholar pursues only the approved course of study;
  • The Scholar is required to register with the Mission in the country of study. All matters pertaining to the Scholarships are to be channelled through the Mission in the country of study or directly to the SATD.

          Other Services

  • Processing  Applications for extensions of award,  deferment of contractual obligations, change of course of study, suspension and re-instatement of awards and withdrawal of awards
  • Requesting Scholar’s academic transcripts from institution of study and monitoring scholar’s progress during his/her course of study;
  • Liaising with Employment Agencies, including the Service Commissions Department and Government Human Resource Services Co. Ltd.  to employ the scholar in a suitable position, commensurate with training and qualification, to enable the person to fulfil his/her contractual obligation.
