The primary activity of the Scholarships and Advanced Training Division is to manage the award of Scholarships and Technical Assistance Awards to nationals of Trinidad and Tobago to pursue tertiary education in areas of strategic importance to our nation’s economic and national development.

In this era of globalization, knowledge is the key resource to achieve competitiveness and success. As such, Trinidad and Tobago must continuously strengthen the excellence of its human resource base to accelerate our transition to a knowledge-based economy. Our country needs to build a large pool of highly-trained personnel who are prepared and committed to dedicate their careers to continuous development of our nation. In this way, new technologies, products and services can be created to transform our society.

Every year, approximately four hundred scholarships will be offered to outstanding nationals. These scholarships are highly prestigious awards and are awarded to only the most dynamic and promising candidates to support them in their journey of learning, discovery and achievement. The Scholarships and Advanced Training Division expects that its scholars' proposed research projects  and fields of study will have a high potential of impact on Trinidad and Tobago’s development, and that their lifelong careers will be marked by significant contributions to leadership,research, teaching and/or industrial applications.
